Google and Tesla have told us that autonomous or self driving technology is ready and firms like UPS have put in orders for Tesla's lorries. What's the hold up? Making it legal, in 2018 we expect more states to jump on board. By the end of 2017 21 states in the U.S. have self driving vehicle laws.

We saw a jump forward with Nvidia launching an articial intelligence computer system for the first fully autonomus vehicle in 2017. With Deutsche Post DHL Group using a test fleet in Germany planned for this year. Bck in the U.S. in 2018 it is expected that more states will make legislation introduced into law. 

Audi has been testing its A8 and R7 autonomous cars with much excitement. Check out this concept model of its autonomus oil tanker, it  looks straight out of Mad Max.

The Federal government  is also investigating country wide changes, uniformity is needed for mass transport and the much hyped autonomous shipping fleets touted for early 2019 by Tesla.

To put the market into perspective there are an estimated 940,000 heavy-duty semi rigs or trucks sold globally each year, 238,000 of them in the U.S.. Obviously there is huge potenital but importantly how many jobs would be lost or shifted should it take off?

What we do know is the technology is there, the concerns are safety and the political fallout from job losses. Plug in and stay tuned.
