Oil producer and shale exploration company Marathon Oil $MRO reported mixed second quarter earnings after the close Wednesday. The stock rose after the company guided capex lower and production maintained. 

Permian operator Parsley Energy $PE missed on the top and bottom line in Q2 earnings Wednesday with ot's shares cracked further on the news, $PE was already down over 6%, after earnings it is now down over 12% on the day.

Concho Resources $CXO reported mixed Q2 earnings Wednesday in another busy week for U.S. shale companies. CXO beat on earnings but on lower revenue as production rose.

British oil giant $BP reported its second quarter earnings Tuesday, the last of the oil majors to report. BP is benefiting from cost cutting but still feeling the effect of the Deepwater Horizon disaster.

Shale play Devon Energy $DVN reported better than expected second quarter earnings after the market close Tuesday. Devon lowered CAPEX spending alomg with other key Shale names in the Permian, Marcellus and Utica.

Pioneer Natural Resources $PXD shares were crushed 7.5% after they said they were behind in completions and would not accelerate activity. This left forward guidance lower and questionable.

Independent oil and natural gas company $EOG Resources reported mixed second quarter earnings after the market close Tuesday. $EOG reported alongside other shale plays Diamondback Energy $FANG and Devon Energy $DVN.

Texas independent oil and natural gas company Diamondback Energy $FANG reported second quarter earnings Tuesday, increasing full year production guidance while decreasing CAPEX and cash cost guidance. 

Houston based oil refiner Phillips 66 $PSX on Tuesday reported better than expected 2Q17 earnings as refining and petrochemical revenues strengthened. Refining is recovering some after low fuel prices hit profit margins.

U.S. Silica Holdings Inc. $SLCA shares were pummeled over 7.5 % after it's second quarter earnings missed expectations. The stocks have been under pressure with frac sand overcapacity concerns.
