The geopolitical nature and globalization of energy makes the IHS Markit hosted CERAWeek one of the world’s premier energy events. The significant players from the world over will be in attendance In Houston March 5 to the 9th, 2018. Speakers include Saudi Aramaco, BP, Shell CEOs and politicians like OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Barkindo.

One would expect a continuation of the topics of CERAWeek 2017, shale, OPEC, Russia and technology as US oil and gas rigs continue to rise as does record U.S. Production.

OPEC's Barkindo has said he will have a dinner Monday night with top shale producers while in Houston. Of particular interest will be General Motors $GM CEO Mary Barra with the move to fuel efficiency and electric vehicles speeding up as we saw at the Detroit auto show. There is a slew of OPEC states representative and even a Fed Governor in Dallas Fed's Kaplan.

Chevron and Exxon Analyst Days

The most significant events during CERAWeek will most likely not be happening at the conference. Chevron $CVX analyst meeting on Tuesday and the Exxon Mobil $XOM analyst meeting on Wednesday. Exxon was one of the most aggressive investors in shale last year and has plans to invest $50 billion over the next five years in its U.S. operations.
