However there is push back at these levels from consumers, at $220-270/mt stainless stell purchases have slowed. however robust demand from the stainless steel sector amid a tighter market is boosting prices. The following session on theShanghai Futures Exchange nickel prices on the  extended their gains in Asia on Thursday tracking the London Metal Exchange in a tighter market.

May nickel (heavist volume) on the SHFE increased  670 yuan or 0.7% to 101,090 yuan ($15,510) per tonne as of 10.12am Shanghai time. This followed the Wednesday, the LME three-month nickel price close of up by 1.8% on the previous day’s close. The intraday high was $13,200 per tonne.

Nickel is also getting a bid from duties added on by China whereby they are charging higher fees to import refined nickel into the country. Taxes were raised to 2% from 1% previously.

Analysts expect the nickel supply shortage is likely to continue as the London-Shanghai import arbitrage window remains closed.

Nickel Cathode as an industry standard for general purpose electroplating:

  • High purity
  • Thickest cathode available (~15 mm)
  • Smooth, shiny and defect-free surface
  • Produces minimal metallic residues upon dissolution
  • Dissolves at 100% anode efficiency in common nickel plating solutions (containing chlorides)
  •  Must be cut into squares or strips prior to using
  • Electrolytic Nickel Cathodes are produced in compliance with the following ISO standards: ISO 9001:2008.
