Our offices in Roanoke, NJ, and Toronto could all be hammered by this winter hurricane …
already a 34mph gust on top of mtn & it’s not here yet or close to maximum strength

HOLY BOMBO-GENESIS … a very rough night at top of mtn … I think sustained wind is 20-30mph with reported 60mph gusts … It reminds me of when tropical storms & hurricanes arrive in SW VA — but with snow & very cold wind instead …

The TREE we tie Rudolph the pug to blew over last night — but his dog house was undamaged & it was a dead 20 foot pine (about 1 foot in diameter) I had planned to take out anyway … thankfully in quick inspection of home no major things found so far …. but these winter cyclones strenghten as barometer drops & wind gradients will INCREASE … plan to hike out later to check on other damages on our 7 acres in paradise

Lights have flickered a few times — so not sure if power will hold up … and don’t want to risk driving Avalon into work as limbs or even a tree could fall — so I’m off to early start at home to get hours in

BACK from full hike of property … WHAT A WINDSTORM — HOLY TOLEDO (gale force winds with light SNOW) … I did find my 6 rows of mustard greens are sprouting but thank our Creator for protection rendered to us & the herd … Time to break out ye old CHAINSAW later 8)

I know the Bambster & resl of herd are okay with fresh tracks in garden … the DEER will not touch mustard greens … I will be starting a HOME, GARDEN, and CRITTERS 2018 thread later – ROFL …(and share some FB photos)

Update 64,000 without power in area … I’m hoping we’ll hold out as it may be days before some of these can be fully repaired

hope u are holding up well CI

Its times like this that Canada, specially Ontario would send workers to help
but now that the government no longer is in full control of Hydro One
I assume shareholders are more important to the board than people

WORST is finally over as high wind warning expires at 11am ET today 8) and further away system moves the calmer weather settles … Count my blessings as power stayed on in both homes & for my mom … even though huge sections still lack power even now.

Heading out shortly on high “wind-swept” trails to check on deer, limb/tree damages, and work on soil + deer proof fence in forthcoming garden — have huge success so far with mustard greens 8) … and maybe go groundhog hunting after Punxy Phil – lol ;)

MAR 5 – Winter storm Riley had hurricane force winds & blew over a tree near our home … We tied Rudolph the pug to tree and thankfully he was inside plus it missed dog house by inches … I am grateful to come out of major storm with just some trees & limbs to clean up 8)

I think they need to treat Nor’easters like hurricanes when they give weather warnings
9 people died

and another follows

I can’t remember the last time I seen snow or even anything of weather related
Rudolph can come north of the border for a vacation 😛

My better half took care of me at grocery store last week (best batch of peppers all time)
so I hope to get this going soon just in case we loose power
The RED HOT CHILI are awesome — both peppers & rock group – lol
And Habanero – the orange lanterns are about 1/4 power of a ghost pepper & ultrahot
