    US Pres.Trump on China

Issues that would need to be dealt wth in Phase II trade talks with China are in a many ways a lot easier thatn Phase I issues
China is purchasing agricultural products now

    USTR Lighthizer

US target is to have Phase I trade deal with China by time of Chile APEC summit, but still issues to be resolved.

couple days ago had a discussion about what an IPO is
I said that IPO’s are now used for early investors to cash out
an “expert” at pretty much everything claimed that IPO’s are used for companies to raise capital to fund investments

It concerns me because either this person clearly doesn’t like to be wrong, is oblivious to what the “markets” are doing and/or just spewing the party line so to speak, instead of the …”hmmm maybe I should look into this” and get edumacted on the subject.

Am I wrong? Are IPO’s now used as a vehicle for early investors to cash out or are IPOs used in the traditional sense to raise capital?

IPO investment is high risk … Folks are banking on speculation, “Goodwill” on asset sheets or popularity often – more than whether the capital being raised will “pay for itself” & return good value to shareholders for risks taken. And seen both sides of equation. Facebook @ $17 was like “shooting fish in a barrel” (I missed huge buy where I tried to buy at $17.00 & low was $17.02 — hence a few more years of being employed — but thankfully can work from home full time πŸ™‚ … and other IPOs bought on pure speculation or hype crashed. If prospects for good stakeholder returns are low — as A3 describes one must “exit stage left” Finally, IPOs having non-quantified risks are designed more for DAY TRADERS than long-term & “Cautious Investors” πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

IPOs have been so overpriced, over marketed and some not worth investing in, at all
a lot has to with ZIRP – the lack of alternative investing is what is pushing up valuations

You are spot on and $UBER and $LYFT are too excellent example of what youa re saying – they even tell people they will lose money, The arrogance of the work founder – and ignorance tells us the expectation that bankers etc dont care either as CI says the promoter meets the casino and as always the herd is oblivious – greed and the eternal market rising create an eerie bedfellow so 2000 nasdaq and dare say 1929 if we didn’t have the eternal QE
