The first round of public impeachment inquiry hearings will begin Nov. 13,
Congressional Democrats announced Wednesday. Ambassador William Taylor, the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine, and Deputy Assistant Secretary George Kent, who is responsible for European and Eurasian policy at the State Department, will testify next week. Investigators are looking into allegations that President Trump used his office to withhold military aid from Ukraine as a quid-pro-quo to pressure the president to investigate Democrats.
A federal judge Wednesday blocked the Trump administration’s “conscience rule” for health care providers.
The rule would have given health care providers permission to refuse participation in procedures that weren’t in line with their religious or moral beliefs. Manhattan-based U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer called the rule unconstitutional and “shot through with glaring legal defects.”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Wednesday the capture of a wife of former ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,
Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,was killed in a U.S. operation on Oct. 26.
Erdogan would not identify al-Baghdadi’s widow, who is believed to have been one of four wives, or reveal the circumstances under which she was captured. Baghdadi blew himself up when special forces trapped in northern Syria.
