Where have we been and where are we..
and as we start a new week – it is heartbreaking to see tragedies in El Paso & Dayton 🙁
and my prayers extend to those impacted + to seek better national unity
as politicians & media are fanning flames of division often for sake of their agenda
still in an overall great nation, a few apples should not spoil entire bunch
and thus hopeful for better times ahead – including hopefully a trade deal ahead even

Keep your eyes on HK and China …Rivaling protests

Anti-government protestors are marching in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok district, as they defy increasingly stern warnings from China.

At the same time pro-Beijing activists gathered in Victoria Park.

Police released a statement calling on protesters to “stop their illegal acts” in blocking TST roads and Cross Harbor Tunnel. They also tell members of the public to avoid the area.

The protests quickly got ugly as night fell, with protesters surrounding and vandalizing the Tsim Sha Tsui police station. They broke car windows, lit a blaze outside the station, threw eggs, shone laser pointers at officers’ faces, and graffitied obscenities onto the station walls.

Riot police were mobilized in the evening. Things got tense, with police firing tear gas and protesters throwing bricks, but the roads were cleared by 11:30 p.m.

What worries businesses most is Monday’s planned general strike, backed by unions and individual professionals in various sectors including transport, welfare and the media.

On Friday, Ms Carol Ng, chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions (CTU), said most of the 95 unions affiliated with the CTU have voted to take part in the strike. There have also been calls for protesters to disrupt train services on Monday morning.

Just terrible all this gun violence and death – the blame is sickening as well – why can’t there be any common ground and rational thinking? Prayers for all – the victims the familes and the children esp growing up in this.

Lonnie Tunes …

Been watching the KnovaWave chart and we saw action today USD/CAD jumps to seven-week high

USD/CAD up 72 pips today to 1.3275 above recent highs and the tenkan
Two things the China V move hit shorts after yesterday’s holiday in Canada the other oil fell again

If oil breaks down here and shorts keep getting squeezed could get ugly

Bank of Japan Summary of Opinions of the Monetary Policy Meeting on July 29 and 30, 2019

With regard to the environment surrounding the global economy, it is concerning that risks have continued to be skewed to the downside since the turn of this fiscal year, due mainly to concern that trade friction, particularly between the United States and China, may become chronic

The Bank should not hesitate to take monetary easing measures if it is expected that the momentum toward achieving the price stability target will be lost.

Highlights (via Reuters):

Difficult to be optimistic about Japan’s economy
Good chance economy may slip into recession
Momentum for hitting 2% inflation goal maintained
BOJ must quickly take steps if overseas risks hurt Japan’s economy, but must keep current policy for now with an eye on side-effects of easing
