Japan Petroleum Exploration is the latest foreign oil company to abandon Canada’s oil sands, as it decides against restarting a pilot project that was shut last year during the wildfires in Alberta.

Japex says it will exit the project due to low oil prices and technical risks of restarting the steam injection wells to allow the heavy oil to flow.

Meanwhile, the company’s nearby Hangingstone commercial project has achieved first oil production of ~1K bbl/day and expects to gradually ramp up to capacity of 20K bbl/day by H2 2018.

Japex owns 75% of both projects, while China’s Nexen Energy ($CEO) owns 25% of both.

I like to watch this company (pun intended)

Its a watch company, and the reason I like to keep my eye on it is simply because of China gift (bribe giving) One the easier big ticket items to get away with giving are watches. China’s anti-corruption campaign under Xi Jinping over the past 6 years is still going strong.

Love the gift buying on $FOSL 🙂

GOOD MORNING — Futures were down but improving as the rhetoric got “trumped up” a little overnight 😉 … I believe cooler heads will prevail as Rex & Nicki both have done some good work on the political side 🙂 Humanity should never use these weapons again – but there must be vigilance & preparation for the worst case scenario … If only they would de-escalate and join the family of nations – their people & nation would be so much better
