and basically we just have to be patient — take 1 day at time — and get best out of each days

The federal government is deploying 1,000 medical military personnel to New York City to help with the COVID-19 epidemic.

President Trump said that this will probably be the toughest week so far in the COVID-19 outbreak, “with a lot of death.”

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo warned Saturday that the state has just seven days to prepare for the peak of the outbreak as it works to expand medical capacity and get access to needed equipment.

On Saturday, the state reported the largest single-day increase in deaths so far, reaching a total of 3,565 deaths in the state.

NASA plans for a moon base as jumping-off point for trips to Mars and beyond.

NASA expects to return astronauts to the moon in 2024 as part of the Artemis program. The moon base would have a lunar terrain vehicle for transporting astronauts around the landing zone, a mobile habitat that could house astronauts for up to 45 days for travel around the moon, and a permanent structure for astronauts to live in.

“After 20 years of continuously living in low-Earth orbit, we’re now ready for the next great challenge of space exploration — the development of a sustained presence on and around the moon,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a statement. “For years to come, Artemis will serve as our North Star as we continue to work toward even greater exploration of the Moon, where we will demonstrate key elements needed for the first human mission to Mars,” he concluded.

Microsoft warned on phishing attack able to deploy Emotet malware that took down an organization’s network by overloading CPUs in Windows devices.

In addition, the organization’s internet connection was slowed to a crawl because the malware used all of the bandwidth.

Microsoft said the malware, a polymorphic virus, spread through network shares and legacy protocols and avoid detection by anti-virus software through regular updates from the attacker’s command and control server. Although Microsoft did not disclose the name of the organization, an examination by ZDNet indicated it was an attack against the city of Allentown, Pennsylvania, in February of 2018.

Microsoft was eventually able to contain the malware infection and wipe it from the organization’s systems.

All systems down within a week
The Emotet payload was delivered and executed on the systems of Fabrikam — a fake name Microsoft gave the victim in their case study — five days after the employee’s user credentials were exfiltrated to the attacker’s command and control (C&C) server.

Before this, the threat actors used the stolen credentials to deliver phishing emails to other Fabrikam employees, as well as to their external contacts, with more and more systems getting infected and downloading additional malware payloads.

The malware further spread through the network without raising any red flags by stealing admin account credentials authenticating itself on new systems, later used as stepping stones to compromise other devices.

Within 8 days since that first booby-trapped attachment was opened, Fabrikam’s entire network was brought to its knees despite the IT department’s efforts, with PCs overheating, freezing, and rebooting because of blue screens, and Internet connections slowing down to a crawl because of Emotet devouring all the bandwidth.

Microsoft recommends using email filtering tools to automatically detect and stop phishing emails that spread the Emotet infection, as well as the adoption of multi-factor authentication (MFA) to stop the attackers from taking advantage of stolen credentials.
