New York Coronavirus cases hit rate, meaning more wide spread, higher than Italy.. President Trump said a quarantine may need to be placed on New York and surrounding areas.

New York March 28 reports 52,318 coronavirus cases vs 44,635 yesterday

7683 new confirmed cases vs 7377 yesterday
17.2% rise in cases today vs 19.8% yesterday
Tests yesterday 17,412
Hit rate yesterday 44% vs total case hit rate 33% in New York. Note Italy rarely overs 40%, an indication that it’s very widespread. This was expected with mass public transport and high density of NYC.
728 deaths total vs 519 yesterday (209 deaths yesterday vs +134 a day earlier)
ICU admissions yesterday 172 vs 374 a day earlier
Total in ICU 1755 vs 1583 yesterday
7328 hospitalized
681 people discharged yesterday to 2726 total

Worldwide, over 1.2 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus, while 65,652 have died, according to the latest stats from Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has 312,481 novel coronavirus cases, more than twice as many cases as Spain, which has the second-highest total. However, Spain and Italy have the most deaths related to the virus: 12,418 and 15,362, respectively. This compares with the U.S. at 8,503 deaths and France with 7,560 deaths. In the U.S., the number of novel coronavirus cases is doubling every five days. There has been disagreement over the mortality rate from the virus.

The World Health Organization put the mortality rate at 3.4 percent, while the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases estimates the mortality rate at 2 percent.

New York City the “primary gateway” to spreading coronavirus infections to the rest of the U.S., according to new research.

Even though Washington state had a number of early cases, the majority of infections analyzed around the country bear the genetic signature of the virus that spread from New York.

Dr. Nathan Grubaugh of the Yale School for Public Health estimates that 60-65% of U.S. infections came from the New York outbreak.
Estimations are based on genetic sequencing of 2,000 virus samples; other scientists told The New York Times they’d like to see a higher sample size before making specific conclusions.
Washington appears to be the only state where the majority of viral samples were not related to the New York City strain.
The virus that spread throughout New York City in February likely came from Europe well before public restrictions were put into effect on March 20.
