KeymasterWeather permitting, the peak of about 91% should occur in SW Virginia area at around 2pm EDT. Our sun is 400X larger than moon, but the moon is 400X closer to earth – so that is why there is a perfect fit in creating total eclipse … More can be found in link below:

ParticipantThank you for that – events like these can have a telling market affect as W.D. Gann established/. Big mood affects and crowd mentality. Ralph Elliott picked up on that as did many cycle practitioners like Bradley. I will dig out if turn dates around that time.

KeymasterA very detailed planning guide from PC Magazine on how to travel (traffic will be super heavy in the 70 mile totality zones) and safe ways to observe (do not use sunglasses for example) ..

ParticipantThank you CI – these events are spectacular and rare – sunglasses are the signature uniform 🙂

KeymasterSome STATE “in the zone” are preparing for massive infusions of people.
However, on AUG 21st, I’m definitely STAYING at home with 91% (plus it “rains often in SW VA anyway) … but if all goes well I will observe (and would love to capture a DEER in the background — as photos are coming … I will also buy some SOLAR glasses (with proper ISO rating) and may get special lens for digital camera 🙂
USA preparing for SOLAR ECLIPSE as if NATURAL DISASTER (as highways will gridlock as folks try to get within 70 mile totality band as much as possible)

Keymaster[b]Heard part of a great show on C2C last night related to the forthcoming TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE … some key sites captured below 🙂

http://drsky.com/dr-sky-great-american-total-solar-eclipse-expedition-survival-guide-2017/%5B/b%5D%5B/size%5DIn the latter half, astronomy reporter Steve Kates, Dr. Sky, discussed the upcoming August 21st “Great American Total Solar Eclipse.” He outlined ways to view the event, such as through ISO-approved glasses, and has created a guide on his website, with historical and scientific notes, as well as safe viewing tips. The solar eclipse takes place when the moon’s orbit brings it between the Earth and the sun, with the moon’s shadow (the umbra and penumbra) moving across the Earth’s surface, he explained. The website Timeanddate.com offers an easy to use map that calculates how and when the eclipse will appear in your area.
During the eclipse, NASA research jets will be flying in the path of the event, though the moon’s shadow moves so quickly that they won’t have much more time than people on the ground to observe, Dr. Sky noted. He also talked about other celestial events, such as how asteroid 2012 TC4 will have a close call with Earth in October, possibly flying by at a mere 4,200 miles away. The small asteroid is about the size of a house, he said, but if it came close enough, it could do some real impact damage, from the compression waves in the atmosphere alone.

KeymasterTOTAL ECLIPSE checklist
(1) Schedule vacation day well into advance (COMPLETE)
(2) Get some SOLAR ISO certified shades at WALMART (TBD)
(3) or take a box and with a pinhole you can make a way to safely observe (as I did in 1970 as a young teen)
(4) Charge digital camera (TDB)
(5) actually rather than looking at sun — Observe the unusual SHADOWS (which often form in crescents) plus ANIMAL behavior is more of a highlight than eclipse (maybe I can get a photo of Bambi in the eclipse
(6) Do not get on any highway at there may be congestion for those heading for the 70 mile 100% zone area
(7) Be ready to head to the nearby CAVE … in case this is the end of the world – lol 🙂DEER in solar eclipse 8)

ParticipantTemperatures in those areas could tumble by as much as 10 degrees Fahrenheit (5.6 Celsius), according to Paul Walker, a meteorologist with AccuWeather Inc. in State College, Pennsylvania. Other parts of the nation will only experience a partial eclipse.
“That is assuming a totally sunny sky,” Walker said by telephone. “We will see a temperature drop where totality happens,” he said, referring to the path the eclipse will take across the U.S. where the sun will be completely blocked out.

KeymasterAUG 21st = Decent weather is forecast as we on outside of 70 mile range (about 90%) … we will be partly cloudy but clouds might result in some neat photos ..
One neat idea for viewer I heard on radio is to get a strainer with small round wholes in it (like a spaghetti strainer) and let sun shine thru so that dozens of tiny cresents appear against paper or even ground. The shadows will all have unusual crescent shapes — and will avoid looking at sun directly 🙂
CHANGE ZIP CODE for your own city (unless you live in great white north – lol)
