Michael Burry’s portfolio:
How his bullish and bearish bets fared In August
Michael Burry’s latest portfolio disclosures have once again drawn Wall Street’s attention, offering a glimpse into how the famed investor is positioning himself across individual stocks and the options market.
Burry’s bearish bets largely moved against him in August. Of the nine stocks he was short, seven traded higher during the month, while one was flat and another gained about 2%. Among his 13 bullish positions, five declined, seven advanced, and one was unchanged.
Palantir: Biggest Pain Point For Burry
Burry has maintained a strongly bearish stance on Palantir, arguing that the stock is significantly overvalued and emblematic of what he views as an unsustainable AI-driven hype cycle. He expanded his bearish exposure through out-of-the-money put options expiring as late as March 2027, with strikes in the low-to-mid $100 range.
Palantir shares, however, surged more than 50% in August, moving sharply against the trade and putting further pressure on Burry’s bearish thesis.
Nvidia and Micron Add To The Pressure
Burry purchased Nvidia (NVDA) December 2026 and June 2027 puts with strike prices in the low $100s, while also buying December calls with strikes in the mid-to-high $200s as a hedge ahead of the company’s earnings report. Nvidia shares traded up 10% in August.
He shorted Micron Technology (MU) shares on July 1, 2026, at around $1,051.87 per share, arguing that the memory-chip maker’s massive rally was driven more by speculation than by fundamentals. He subsequently added to his bearish position in both July and August. However, Micron shares gained 16.49% in August, increasing the pressure on Burry’s contrarian bet.
Other Short Bets Also Moved Higher
Most of Burry’s other bearish positions also gained in August. Oracle (ORCL) rose 14.8%, CoreWeave (CRWV) gained 18%, Nebius (NBIS) advanced 8%, and the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose 1.22%. QQQ was nearly flat, while Caterpillar (CAT) fell about 2%.
Veeva Leads His Long Positions
Veeva was Burry’s biggest winner among his bullish holdings, surging 40% in August. Adobe (ADBE) gained 17%, Fannie Mae (FNMA) rose 5.7%, and MercadoLibre (MELI) advanced 3%. Zoetis (ZTS) was essentially flat.
On the weaker side, PayPal (PYPL) fell 8%, Sprouts Farmers Market (SFM) declined 6%, Flutter Entertainment (FLUT) dropped 4%, and Fiserv (FISV) slipped 1%.
Burry Remains Bullish On Value Plays
Burry has maintained a bullish stance on Lululemon (LULU), describing the beaten-down stock as “screaming cheap.” The shares gained only about 1% in August.
He is also bullish on Molina Healthcare (MOH), which he views as a core value investment. Burry added to his position around $198, citing long-term confidence in the health insurer and a potential catalyst from the upcoming election season. Molina shares gained 1.6% in August.
JD.com replaces Alibaba
Burry also disclosed that he significantly increased his bullish position in JD.com (JD) after completely exiting his Alibaba (BABA) stake a few months back. He added that Alibaba shares would have to fall by roughly 50% from current levels before he would consider buying the stock again.
