Equity indices in the Asia-Pacific region began the week on a mostly lower note.

China’s troubled developer Evergrande returned to headlines, announcing that it cannot issue new debt and it is scrapping a planned $35 bln debt restructuring.
In addition, one of the company’s subsidiaries is being investigated.
Separately, shares of Country Garden were pressured after bondholders said that they did not receive a payment that was due a week ago.
